A favourite writing spot in Hay-on-Wye…

As I sit in one of my favourite writing spots in Hay-on-Wye, the Old Electric Shop, I’m planning my next writing retreat. I’m also enjoying the gentle flow of good dogs and humans and the hum of conversation around me (topics have included trapeze tuition, which is not unusual in such a creative and eclectic location). I’m going to holding a two-day writing retreat in Hay-on-Wye on 25th & 26th November 2025, at Hay Castle, and of course you’ll be invited and warmly encouraged to explore the nearby cafés and bookshops when we’re not busy writing, hearing from authors or enjoying food or yoga.

My gentle writing retreats are suitable for adults at any stage of their writing journey and we’ll enjoy informal expert Q & As as well as writing time. Day 2 will begin with optional yoga nearby and, if you know me at all, you won't be surprised to hear that there’ll be plenty of lovely food, including pastries and lunch.

It’s a perfect chance to start writing your first book or work on an existing project. We’ll be here to provide time, space, energy and enthusiasm for your project. Of course I’m also a professional coach and so I can help you unblock blocks, as can the expert authors who are coming to meet us.

And as a Hay insider, you’ll get to know this famous boomtown a bit better from the inside too.

Hay Castle really is a spectacular location for this retreat and I can’t wait to welcome you here to write.
